The first general orientation program for foreign students was conducted last May 26 and 27, 2009 at CSU Caritan Campus with the theme, “Harmony Across Cultural Barriers: Its Role in the Internationalization of CSU.” It was a two-day activity designed to provide the foreign students salient information that will aid them in achieving successful adjustment in the University. The program included the following topics: University mission-vision, programs & policies and school facilities which was delivered by Dr. Antonio Tamayao. He also conducted a comprehensive lecture about Filipino Traits and Culture. Some modules were also given in line with personality development such as Power Dressing presented by Ms. Queenie Urani-Wuthrich and Mr. Giovannie Stanley Malab; Social Graces which was presented by Mrs. Norliza Tabao-Reyes and Guidelines in Developing Good Study Habits and Time Management presented by Mrs. Loraine S. Tattao.
There were 40 students who attended the activity coming from various culture and religion: Indians, Pakistani, Kenyan, Nigerian, Congolese and American. The participants actively took part in all of the sessions. They asked questions and clarified some issues especially pertaining to policies of the College of Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Pablo Afidchao, the Director for Admission of the College of Medicine and Sugery, carefully discussed the policies. The participants were very responsive and eager to express their thoughts and experiences during the sharing of insights. What mattered to them greatly was the friendships that they relish and the warm assistance from their teachers and university personnel mattered to them greatly. At the culminating session, they have proudly showcased their talents in singing and dancing. They came in their vibrant and flamboyant national costumes which added a different flavor in the program. The snacks and lunches for the entire activity was sponsored by the University. The program ended with the signing of their names on the tarpaulin specially made for the first batch of the foreign students. After going through the two-day orientation program, they proudly claim that they are already part of the University. |
