The Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs has announced that preparations are well underway for the accreditation of programs of the Cagayan State University by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities - Commission on Accreditation (PACU-COA). This is a landmark procedure, considering that CSU is the first ever state university to submit itself to voluntary accreditation by PACU-COA. The University President, Dr. Roger Perez, initiated talks with PACU-COA to enable the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs to submit its application. The following courses will be submitted to the accreditation process: Teacher Education, Engineering, Medical Technology, Industrial Technology, Arts and Sciences and Commerce. Meanwhile committees have also been formed to prepare the necessary reports demanded by IQUAME, a quality-evaluation system of the Commission on Higher Education. Fr. Ranhilio Aquino pointed out that accreditation and IQuaME evaluation run through parallel lines but are not identical. Accreditation is program-based; IQUAME is institution based. In both cases, however, programs across campuses are subject to accreditation, and IQuaME inspection will likewise cover the whole university.
