Newly elected Faculty Regent Nelia Cauilan, former College of Public Administration dean, may be abroad for a research during the campaign and election periods of the University Faculty Association (UFA), but her absence hardly mattered as she posted a lopsided victory over the other presidentiables in the university-wide elections last January 30.
Cauilan, the standard bearer of Responsible Progressive Party (RPP), garnered 154 votes. Former Faculty Regent Roger Rumpon was a distant second with 102 votes, Nieves Reyes of the College of Education netted 68 votes and former Sanchez Mira Campus Executive Officer Aurelio Caldez ended with 54 votes.
Incumbent UFA President Buencamino Martin reran and maintained his 1st Vice Presidency post while Dennis Bacuyag of College of Public Administration was named 2nd Vice President.
Martin’s triumph marked his second consecutive vice presidency position after winning last 2008 yet occupied the vacated seat of Engr. Diosdado Dimalanta who resigned months after his successful presidential bid.
This year’s newly elected UFA will be holding office for two years and hope to be inducted before the quarter ends.
