CSU opens a new academic year and embraces 11,883 brand new faces during the welcome ceremonies for the new members of the CSU academic community today, September 4, 2023, as they mark the beginning of their college journey with the university.
The 2,035 freshmen of CSU-Andrews Campus officially took their first steps in the campus during the traditional Grand Athena Walk through the Parthenon-inspired stairs. Armed with their own college identity, they creatively showcased their bachelor programs.
In her Inspirational Message, University President Urdujah G. Alvarado welcomed the undergraduate students as they enter a new chapter in their lives. As the mother of the University, President Alvarado remarked that her office is always open for all members of the CSU community. “I may not be able to entertain all of you at the same time, but I will always make time for you. I want you to make me – and all of your professors, deans, administrators – a part of your journey,” she added.
This is seconded by the Opening Remarks of CSU-Andrews Campus Executive Officer, Prof. Ramon O. Kanapi, who gave his advice to the students. “In college, your goal is to recreate yourself. Your transition is your responsibility and soon will be your achievement,” he added.
The freshmen were greeted by a festive atmosphere where all faculty, staff, and returning students supported the event. To start the semester in a good note, a jump street competition among the first-year students ensued where the College of Hospitality Management emerged as the champion.
Simultaneously, the other CSU campuses also conducted their welcome activities in their own respective campus. CSU-Carig has welcomed the largest batch of freshmen at 4,068. CSU-Aparri welcomed 1,550 new students, while CSU-Sanchez Mira has 1,394. The campus of Gonzaga registers 728 new students.
On the other hand, CSU-Lal-lo Campus greeted to its abode 629 new students while CSU-Piat recorded 545 first-year students. CSU-Solana, the newest addition to the university, has 519 new students. CSU-Lasam has the smallest freshmen population at 415. In total, CSU has 11,883 new students joining the 1st semester of the present school year. Welcome to CSU!🎉
