Production

The University Business Program has always been playing an important role in income generation to augment the budget for the various projects and activities in the university. This has been the result of implementing innovative and efficient strategies and policies for income collection and consolidation. The most important of these policies and strategies is: "All collections for IGP shall only be done by the Cashier through official receipts." The income generating projects are also closely monitored and evaluated for income performance with the intention of maintaining and develop those that are viable while closing those that are losing. When a campus proposes to start a new IGP venture, it is a policy that it shall first show the administration its capability to manage the project most especially on the integrity of those people manning it. It is only after this process that the central administration shall pour in and invest the needed capital. These simple but innovative policies really made a 360 degrees turn around for IGP.

Among the non-performing projects that were closed during the year were: piggery, mushroom, tiger grass, and herbal projects of CSU-Gonzaga and the piggery, poultry and tilapia projects of CSU- Sanchez Mira. The remaining and existing projects are the following:

  • sugar cane production
  • Poultry
  • Piggery
  • Large cattle
  • Small ruminants (goat/sheep)
Piat Sugarcane production, integrated farm (egg- and meat-types poultry, piggery, vegetables, mango) large cattle and small ruminants (goat/sheep)
Lallo Large cattle, vegetable, and corn
Sanchez Mira Mushroom/spawn production, sheep, coconut, canteen
Gonzaga Rice production, HVCC, coconut, sheep, and freshwater prawn tilapia poly-culture
Aparri Fish (tilapia-bangus mono and poly-culture) production in ponds and cages
Lasam Canteen operation, vegetable and food processing in very small scale due to limited area

There are other sources of income common to all campuses but these are the main business ventures for Tuguegarao campus: sale of school uniforms and other items; and space/stall rentals

The identification and development of flagship IGP per campus was also started during the year. A project is considered a flagship project when it gives the highest revenue and usually involves the backward and forward linkages of the production process. Among those identified and are being developed are the following:

Piat Sugarcane production (raw sugarcane and vinegar-, wine-, and muscovado-making) The cattle (beef type) project is underway to be converted as dairy cattle and will also become one of the flagship projects of the campus
Lallo Small ruminants (sheep and goat). Corn and vegetable production is also underway to become the flagship projects of this campus
Gonzaga Freshwater prawn and rice production
Aparri Fish production in cages and ponds including tilapia fingerlings. Crab hatchery is underway to become one of its flagship projects
Tuguegarao Due to lack of production areas, this campus will concentrate on
sale of uniforms and space/stall rentals

With the implementation of these innovative policies and strategies and those embodied in the Medium Term Development Program, it is expected that the University Business Program shall become a vital catalyst for income generation for sustainability and self-sufficiency.
