Members of the academic community of Cagayan State University welcomed in its iconic library to witness the formal launching of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies Corner at CSU Caritan, Tuguegarao City on April 4, 2008.

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies was created on September 26, 1977. PIDS was established to respond to the critical and growing need for research for planning and policy formulation.

In general, PIDS research is envisioned to help government planners and policy-makers in the executive and legislative branches of government. Its primary clientele consists of the network of agencies which make up the National Economic and Development Authority.

Dr. Joseph Yap, president of the PIDS together with six members of the institute graced the gathering which was attended by teachers, administrative personnel and Dr. Rogelio Matalang, Vice President for Research and Extension.

The university is privileged to have one of the brightest think-tanks of the government in the field of policy-oriented research by providing access to their years of hard work, thus committed itself to the goals and objectives of the PIDS in carrying out the national thrusts towards progress through institutions such as Cagayan State University which serves closely and directly with the participants and stakeholders of development.

PIDS was established by by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1201. PIDS is organized as a nonstock, nonprofit government corporation.
