By Office of the University President | February 11, 2026 |

With thunderous cheers and dynamic dance performances, Cagayan State University–Carig Campus welcomed the delegates during the opening of the University Meet on February 10, 2026, at the Red Eagle Gymnasium.

The celebration began with a lively parade around the CSU Carig campus, culminating in a festive opening program that gathered university officials, Board of Regents members, coaches, athletes, and performers from CSU’s nine campuses.

In his welcome address, CSU Carig CEO Engr. Roger P. Rumpon assured participants of a safe and comfortable stay, thanking the faculty and staff whose dedication made the event possible. “We welcome you all with open hearts,” he said.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mariden V. Cauilan highlighted how the University Meet brings together two equally powerful arenas, the field and the stage, where teamwork, discipline, and character are formed. She reminded participants that while medals matter, the friendships built during the event matter more.

Delivering the inspirational message, CSU Officer-in-Charge President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez emphasized that the University Meet goes beyond competition. Anchored on the theme “Championing Strength and Unity,” he described the event as a celebration of CSU’s shared identity, resilience, and commitment to excellence guided by the university’s core values.

Ceremonial activities such as the hoisting of banners, oaths of amateurism and technical officials, lighting of the friendship torch, and the presentation of Mr. and Ms. CSU highlighted the opening program.

Delegations representing Carig (537), Andrews (405), Aparri (522), Gonzaga (357), Lasam (246), Lal-lo (355), Piat (307), Sanchez Mira (508), and Solana (116) are set to compete in a wide range of activities, from athletic to ball games, e-sports, and socio-cultural competitions such as cheer dance, dance sports, music, literary and dramatic arts, and pageantry.

In the cheer dance competition, CSU Carig secured 1st place, followed by CSU Andrews in 2nd place and CSU Aparri in 3rd place, showcasing exceptional energy, synchronization, and school spirit during the opening festivities.

The University Meet continues until February 13, 2026, bringing together students across campuses in the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and cultural pride.
