A new agricultural development initiative focused on cacao production and processing is now underway to help build a sustainable agricultural ecosystem that benefits farmers, consumers, and local enterprises.
Launched today, February 16, 2026, in Silagan, Allacapan, Cagayan, the cacao production and processing program aims to strengthen community capacity through education, technical training, and value-added processing. Participants are guided through the entire cacao value chain, from planting and cultivation to processing and marketing, equipping them with practical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.
Program activities include hands-on workshops, product demonstrations, and interactive discussions with industry practitioners, providing participants with both theoretical foundations and real-world insights.
Designed as both a research and extension initiative, the program also promotes environmental sustainability through tree-growing activities and responsible farming practices. It seeks to foster stronger collaboration among academic institutions, local government units, and community organizations to ensure long-term impact.
The initiative is spearheaded by Cagayan State University (CSU)–Lasam Campus under the leadership of Campus Executive Officer Dr. Florante Victor M. Balatico, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Allacapan, headed by Municipal Mayor Yvonne Kathrina S. Florida.
