Representatives from DOST Samar and the Local Government of Catbalogan met with OIC President Arthur G. Ibañez to discuss the potential rollout of converted electric tricycle (e-trike) technology in Samar as part of sustainable transport initiatives.

The e-trike project is an innovation of Cagayan State University–Carig Campus developed in collaboration with University of the Philippines Diliman, with Dr. Ibañez serving as Program Leader.

The initiative originated from the University’s first DOST-funded NICER Program, the Electromobility Research and Development Center, which advances cleaner transportation solutions and contributes to the country’s long-term carbon reduction and environmental sustainability agenda.

The visiting team included DOST Samar Provincial Director Dr. Evelyn B. Tablante, Supervising SRS Ms. Emelyn Maglahus, and Mr. Exequiel Cabrigas and Mr. Aron Jake T. Mate of LGU Catbalogan, who are set to conduct a benchmarking activity at the CSU Carig Campus to further assess the technology’s implementation.
