A new five-hectare research orchard establishment is officially taking shape at Cagayan State University (CSU) Lal-lo Campus following a groundbreaking ceremony today, February 18, 2026, led by university and campus officials, signaling a significant step toward advancing science-based agriculture.
Through studies on crop adaptability, productivity, and economic performance under Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) management, the program aims to enhance fruit production systems, encourage climate-resilient practices, and create long-term benefits for farmers and partner communities.
Once fully developed, the site will support experimental studies, training programs, and extension services that aim to enhance productivity while encouraging responsible land management practices.
The orchard establishment is supported by the Local Government of Lal-lo, Bureau of Plant Industry – National Seed Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQS), different regional offices including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture (DA), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC), among others.
Meanwhile, participants engaged in knowledge-sharing activities, wellness exercises, and a symbolic tree planting that formally initiated the orchard’s development.
