Cagayan State University (CSU), in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 02, officially commenced the two-day Data Science and Analytics with R Programming Training on June 17, 2026, at the Hermes Hall of Athena Hotel, Andrews Campus.

The training brings together deans and faculty members of the College of Information and Computing Sciences from CSU's nine campuses, along with Research, Development, and Extension personnel from the University Central Administration.

During the opening program, Dr. Charmie S. Calvo, University Director for Special Projects, emphasized the growing significance of data science in higher education and the importance of equipping faculty researchers with advanced analytical competencies.

CSU Officer-in-Charge President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez encouraged participants to utilize data analytics in addressing institutional challenges and generating innovative solutions that contribute to academic excellence and community development.

Meanwhile, DICT Assistant Regional Director Atty. Jeoy Laverinto, representing DICT Region II Assistant Secretary and Regional Director Engr. Pinky T. Jimenez, restated the agency's commitment to supporting educational institutions in building a culture of innovation and evidence-based decision-making.

He emphasized that the ability to convert data into meaningful insights is increasingly important in strengthening institutional performance and enhancing educational outcomes.

The first day of the training featured lectures facilitated by Mr. Karl Steven Maddela, DICT 02 Project Development Officer III, covering fundamentals of data analytics, R programming, and data exploration.

The activity is a joint initiative of the Office the Director for Special Projects, spearheaded by Dr. Calvo, and the Office of the Director for Research and Development, led by Dr. Anderson G. Gonzales
