Cagayan State University (CSU) continues to strengthen its global footprint after three (3) of its innovative initiatives were featured in separate reports of the United Nations Local2030 Coalition during the Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress currently held in Jakarta, Indonesia from June 22-25, 2026.
Recognized by UN, the University’s Climate-Resilient Ivatan Housing Project, the Electromobility Research and Development Center (EMRDC), and the Integrated Community-Based Niche Livelihood Programs were cited as transformative models demonstrating how local innovation, research, and community engagement can accelerate sustainable development.
The Climate-Resilient Ivatan Housing Project was featured in Road to Baku: The Local Way – Local Housing Solutions for Transformative Impact (May 2026) for its integration of indigenous Ivatan knowledge, community participation, engineering innovations, and data-driven governance in developing housing solutions that address climate and disaster risks while preserving cultural heritage.
In Road to Belém: The Local Way – Local Climate Action Solutions for SDG Acceleration (November 2025), the Electromobility Research and Development Center (EMRDC) was recognized for its contributions to electric mobility research and development, supporting local government units in adopting sustainable transportation systems that help reduce emissions and create economic opportunities.
Meanwhile, CSU's Integrated Community-Based Niche Livelihood Programs were featured in Road to Doha: The Local Way – Local Social Development Solutions for SDG Acceleration (November 2025) for promoting sustainable livelihoods through the utilization of local resources, community engagement, research-based innovation, and partnerships with government and development stakeholders. Implemented across the university's campuses, the programs contribute to strengthening local capacities and advancing inclusive rural development in Cagayan Province.
The UN Local2030 Coalition serves as the United Nations system-wide platform for the localization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, bringing together governments, academia, civil society, youth, and the private sector to accelerate sustainable development at the local level.
This global recognition was made possible through the visionary leadership of Officer-In-Charge University President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez, and the collective efforts of the CSU community. Deepest gratitude is extended to Dr. Audy R. Quebral, VP for Research, Development, and Extension, Dr. Gided T. Battung, University Focal Person on UN Localizing the SDGs, Dr. Florentina S. Dumlao, University Technical Adviser, campus executive officers, project members, and staff whose dedication continues to put CSU on the global map of sustainable innovation.
